About Us
Funded by our members, the ANMW is a non-profit making organisation with admission agreed by the membership. Applicants must be wholesalers of national newspapers or hold two out of the three major magazine distributor contracts.
Affiliate membership is also available for those with a limited product range or less than 150 retail customers.
The ANMW exists to represent the interests of its members on non-competitive industry issues to government, the regulatory authorities or any other external parties who have influence in our industry.
In addition, a key role is to promote Best Practice amongst wholesalers by sharing information and jointly developing initiatives where competitive advantage is not at stake.
The ANMW also provides information to members on health and safety, employment issues and relevant new legislation and negotiates pay and working conditions with the GPMU on behalf of all members.

The Joint Industry Group (JIG) oversees many of these initiatives and consists of one member of the ANMW plus one member of each of the following organisations:
- · Association of News Retailing
- · British Retail Consortium
- · National Federation of Retail Newsagents
- · Newspaper Publishers Association
- · Periodical Publishers Association
History
The ANMW was formed in 1904 when three wholesalers in the Lancashire area joined forces to form a wholesale newstrade association. This quickly grew to include wholesalers in Yorkshire, Leeds and Sheffield. In 1908 the group became known as The Provincial Newspaper Wholesaler Association (PNWA), the first recognised body in England and Wales to work together on matters concerning the wholesale newstrade.
Over a century later, the ANMW has grown to represent the newspaper and magazine wholesale newstrade throughout the United Kingdom.
